Difference between Preventive & Predictive maintenance

maintenance

Definition:

Predictive maintenance:

Predictive maintenance controls the effectiveness and wear of an object-oriented on information gathered from specialist observation and instruments such as vibration assessment, petroleum assessment and heat imaging.

At the end of a predictive task, the person performing the predictive task knows more about the asset, but the condition of the asset has not been changed.

Preventive maintenance:

Preventive maintenance is a scheduled or planned maintenance, conducted even when devices or devices are in full operational mode to avoid potential breakdowns or problems.

Basically, preventive maintenance is very comparable. Although its primary aim is to avoid breakdowns, the use of preventive maintenance technology also enables to stretch the device or asset’s lifetime and boost effectiveness and productivity.

Preventive maintenance V/S Predictive maintenance:

Preventive and predictive maintenance have similar objectives. Like any proactive approach, these plans are designed to create a periodic maintenance routine that enables a business to achieve minimum or maximum requirements.

The biggest difference between the two is that when the machines are shut down, preventive maintenance tasks are completed and predictive maintenance is performed as the machines run their normal production modes.

Timing PM/PdM:

  • If preventive servicing is planned to take place too soon, some part of a component’s functional lives will be lost.

  • When predictive maintenance is planned to be continuously performed, some job will be performed if there is little or no danger of error and therefore little importance.

Predicting maintenance:

Preventive management does not use databases to estimate the need for maintenance. Rather, it plans duties depending on time or sensory causes that have gone. In order to perform these duties, such as petroleum modifications and lubrication, technicians typically need to shut down and disassemble machinery.

Predictive monitoring utilizes algorithms to define information patterns and estimate the likelihood of failure. Because this technique gathers information on the efficiency of the machinery in real time, predictive servicing generally takes place during operation of the machinery
