WHAT IS POWER LINE CARRIER COMMUNICATION Power line carrier communication uses the power lines for information transfer. By using this low-frequency radio currents are propagated through the metallic transmission line conductors.

PLCC HAS THREE DISTINCT PARTS

  • The terminal assembly which consists of transmitter-receiver and protective relays
  • The terminal connection to the transmission line is done by the coupling and tuning equipment
  • Transmission line provides a better path for the transmission of high-frequency carrier energy between terminals

Power line provides a better transmission medium because of their rugged construction. These communications are in the form of speech or in the form of tones for telegraph, telemetering, telecontrol, and higher speed data applications and the line protection is the most important feature of the PLCC

PLCC provides broadband data communication with the help of AC transmission lines

POWER LINE CARRIER RELAY SCHEME Phase comparison - it compares the phase angle of the current at each end of the line over the carrier channel. Tripping is blocked if the two currents are in phase as they would be for the normal load. The breaker tripping is done for the internal line faults

Directional comparison - it uses directional distant relays to start the transmission of the carrier signal to block the tripping during the external faults, in case of internal line faults the transmission of the carrier signal is stopped by the other elements of the directional distant relays

OPERATION

In order to do the communication over the power lines MODEM is used, it can be also called as the transceivers because it can do the transmission and receiving of the data over the power lines during the transmission it modulates the data and while receiving the data it demodulates the data
