Butterfly valves are pivoting disk valves that control flow used in both heavy and light uses. The circular disk or plate is positioned precisely in the middle of the tube, perpendicular to the direction of the current, with the same radial dimensions as the pipe.
It is a heavy task to install large size butterfly valve in the industry and publish drainage facilities, Maintenance is an another important task to be completed.
The butterly valve seat, disk, stem and bush should be covered with a silicone lubricant. The disk should be opened at 10 degrees.
Where applicable, cardboard, plywood or similar sturdy material should cover the faces of each valve to prevent damage to the inside of the seat face, disc edge or butterly valve.
Valves should be kept indoors with clear face guards. Ideally, the processing temperature should be between + 40 ° F and 85 ° F.
When handling the valve or valve kit, use caution. Never raise the handle of the lever, gear, hand wheel, or actuator. Place a rope or hoist tightly around the body of the valve during handling.
Piping/Valve orientation and placement:
- Valve location:
Butterfly valve should be mounted 6 pipe diameter from other pipeline elements such as joint, elbow, etc. It may not always be possible, but it is important to reach as much distance as possible.
- For slurries, sludge, paper, dry cement or any other sediment or particle content, the manufacturer suggests mounting the valve with the stem in the horizontal position with the lower disk edge opening downstream.
Butterfly valve installation procedure:
Make the flanges and pipeline are clean. Any foreign material such as pipe scale, metal chips, welding slag, welding rods, etc. can hinder the movement of the disks or harm the valve.
The valve of the BY / MY series has molded o-rings on a seat head.
IMPORTANT: No gaskets are required as these o-rings serve the function of a gasket
Align the pipe and extend the tube flanges so that the valve body can easily be positioned between the tube.
Test to see that the valve disk has been moved from the seat face to a partially open position with the edge of the disc about 1/4 “to 3/8.” (Open approximately 10 °)
Insert the valve between the flanges to avoid damaging the faces of the seat. Always pick up the valve by locating the holes or using a nylon sling around the neck of the valve. IMPORTANT: Never pick the valve as damage may occur by the actuator or operator.
Place the valve between the flanges, center it and extend the body of the valve with all the bolts of the flange.
Valve Installation Procedure with flange welding:
If butterfly valves are mounted between ANSI welding style flanges, the following precautions should be followed to ensure that there is no damage to the seat:
Place the valve correctly positioned between the flanges with the flange bores and the body of the valve.
Span the body with flange bolts.
Take the flange-valve-flange assembly and properly align in the pipe.
Tack weld the pipe flanges.
Remove the bolts and valve from the flanges of the tube when tack welding is complete and complete the welding. Until mounting the valve, be sure to let the pipe and flanges cool.
