Industrial Network interview questions

What is MAC Address?

A unique48 Bit address assigned to each network card. Its also called as a physical address.

What is meant by Hubs?

A common connection point for devices in a network. Hubs are commonly used to connect segments of a LAN. A hub contains multiple ports. When a packet arrives at a port, it is copied to the other ports so that all segments of the LAN can see all the packets.

What is the Difference between HUB and SWITCH?

HUB-it is a network device that provides a central connection on for cables from the workstation, server etc.the hub take the incoming single one port and provide every port so that is the main reason for collision.

(1) works on physical layer in OSI model (2) Hub is half duplex (3) collision detection is on in hub (4) Hub broadcast of the transmitted message

Switch, it also provides central connection to the workstation.it provide the unique cast.it is better than a hub.

(1) switch work in data link layer in OSI model (2) switch work half and full duplex (3) collision detection is off (4) switch transmitted messages unicast and sometimes broadcast.

Difference between communication and transmission?

Transmission is a physical movement of information and concern issues like bit polarity, synchronisation, clock etc.

Communication means the meaning full exchange of information between two communication media.

What do u mean by Gateway?

They relay packets among networks that have different protocols. They accept a package formatted for a protocol and convert it into a package formatted for another protocol before resending it. They operate in the seven layers of the OSI model.

Definitions of Firewall?

Firewalls are the most important aspect of the network and its security in the current era. Due to the maximization of attacks on the networks of various groups that steal data, deny services, etc., the firewall plays a vital role in computer networks.

What do u mean by Repeater?

A repeater is an electronic device that receives a signal, cleans it of unnecessary noise, regenerates it and retransmits it to a higher power level.

What is Network Mask?

A network mask is used for determination of what subnet an IP address belongs to. An IP address has a network address and the host address.

What is MAC address?

Media Access Control address is an identifier for assigned to most network adapters or Network Interface Cards by the manufacturer for the purpose of identification.

Explain the function of Transmission Control Block

A TCB is a complex data structure that contains a considerable amount of information about each connection.

What is IGP (Interior Gateway Protocol)?

It is any routing protocol used within an autonomous system.

What is the difference between interior and exterior neighbour gateways?

Interior gateways connect LANs of one organization, whereas exterior gateways connect the organization to the outside world.
