Thermostats:

The thermostat is a device to regulate the temperature of the system so that the temperature of the system is maintained near the desired setpoint temperature. Thermostat is a tool to regulate the temperature so that it is always fixed. The principle of this tool is (regulator). Thermostats are widely used in tools such as refrigerators, electric irons, cooking stoves, egg incubators, incubators, and bath water heaters.

Thermostats can be built in various ways and may use various sensors to measure temperature. The output of the sensor then controls the heating or cooling apparatus. Common thermostat sensor technology used are:

  • Bimetal mechanical or electrical sensors
  • Expanding wax pellets
  • Electronic thermistors and semiconductor devices
  • Electric thermocouples
  • Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRV)

Thermostat valve:

Thermostat is a kind of valve that opens and closes automatically according to the temperature of the coolant. The thermostat is installed between the radiator and the engine cooling circuit. When the cooling temperature is low, the valve closes to prevent water from entering the radiator. When the temperature increases the valve will open and thus the coolant will flow to the radiator.

  • If more cooling is needed, for example, in response to an increase in the heat engine which causes the coolant temperature to rise, the thermostat will increase the opening to allow more cooling to flow through the radiator and engine coolant increase. If the thermostat is fully open, it will not be able to increase the cooling flow to the radiator, there will be no cooling capacity available, and the increase in heat output by the engine will produce heat.

  • If the cooler is not needed, for example, in response to a decrease in the environment causing the cooling temperature falls, the thermostat will reduce its opening to limit the cooling flow through the radiator and reduce engine cooling. If the thermostat is completely closed, it will not be able to reduce the cooling in response to a decrease in coolant temperature, and the engine temperature will fall below the optimal operating range.

Advantages of the thermostat:

  • Energy saving

  • Reduce installation and production cost

  • Improve the quality of product

Disadvantages of the thermostat:

  • It is a mechanical device and can break or go off calibration

  • It is subject to human interface and people setting too low or high depending on their preference.

  • It does not take humidity and air velocity in consderation.
